- Urbach, Ephraim Elimelech
(1912-91)
Israeli scholar. He studied at the Breslau Rabbinical Seminary and at the universities of Breslau and Rome; he later taught at the Breslau seminary (1935-8). In 1938 he settled in Palestine, where he became a schoolteacher and headmaster of grammar schools in Jerusalem. In 1958 he became professor of Talmud at the Hebrew University. His publications include a study of the tosaphists and their methods.
